Mars Argo Wiki

"Spider in My Bathtub" is a song by Mars Argo, intended for Technology Is a Dead Bird, Linden Place, and their canceled second studio album. A demo version of the song accompanied by an audio video was uploaded to the Grocerybag YouTube channel on September 23rd, 2010.[1] A more finalized, 10-second longer version was later uploaded exclusively to the band's Myspace account.[2]

Background[]

According to Mars Argo and Titanic Sinclair, "Spider in My Bathtub" was one of the first instrumentals they made together, before it became a "real song" much later, as stated in an interview with Vocalo.[3] The lyrics were presumably written sometime in 2010, and are believed by many to be about masturbation while thinking of a lover. The audio video released for the song was accompanied by two photos taken by Noah Kalina as part of its cover artwork shoot,[4] with modular synthesizer programming being credited in the video description to Surachai and Justin McGrath.[5]

A speculated tracklist draft of Linden Place was posted to Sinclair's Tumblr in early 2011, including "Spider in My Bathtub" as its fifth track.[6] Argo confirmed in a reply to a fan on Facebook in 2011 that the song would be included on the band's later-canceled second studio album alongside "Electric Car" when asked why the songs didn't appear on the final track-listing of the aforementioned EP.[7] Sinclair made a post to his Tumblr account in May 2012, claiming that the song's "official album version" would be finished later that day.[8]

An instrumental rendition of the song was posted to Argo's SoundCloud on June 26th, 2014, under the title "Spider (Instrumental)". The cover artwork was a picture of a poem Argo wrote which was previously posted to her Tumblr, Facebook and Instagram accounts in February of that year.[9][10][11] The original filename of this version confirms it was exported on February 15th, 2011,[12] meaning that it was produced during the Linden Place sessions.

Lyrics[]

Butterflies awake me from my sleep
And the tiles sting like ice beneath my feet
My dress is slipping past my knees
And a memory of you is all I need

There's a spider in my bathtub
She looks at me
And she's crawling to the ceiling
And I'm waiting patiently
For the telephone to ring
And I'm relatively lonely here
And I feel a little warm
And I wonder if you'll take me there
Can you take me there?
When I think about your touch
I feel completely insane

When I close my eyes my heart begins to race
And I think about your lips and how they taste

There's a spider in my bathtub
She looks at me
And she's crawling to the ceiling
And I'm waiting patiently
For the telephone to ring
And I'm relatively lonely here
And I feel a little warm
And I wonder if you'll take me there
Can you take me there?
When I think about your touch
I feel completely insane

For the telephone to ring
And I'm relatively lonely here
And I feel a little warm
And I wonder if you'll take me there
(You're the only one who ever touched me)
For the telephone to ring
And I'm relatively lonely here
And I feel a little warm
And I wonder if you'll take me
(You're the only one who ever touched me)
(You're the only one)

  • A demo of the single version was leaked online on May 9th, 2022.[15]
