Brittany Alexandria Sheets, professionally known by her stage name Mars Argo, is an American singer-songwriter, actress, photographer and model. She is best known for formerly being the lead singer of a band named after her stage persona, releasing one studio album, two EPs and plenty of other songs. The band came to an end in early 2015, following Argo's split with her long-time boyfriend Titanic Sinclair.

Life and Career[]

Early life[]

Argo was raised in Saginaw, Michigan. She has been an equestrian since she was a child, owning many horses. She mentioned in an interview with FearlessRadio that she did not grow up with video games, due to her mother believing it would distract from her schoolwork.[3]

She was a biology student in college when she met Sinclair in 2007. They eventually began dating and worked together on some videos for the now-inactive group YouTube channel, DigitalFunTown. These include "Pirate Wheel of Fortune",[4] a comedy video where she stars as an actress, and original songs "Dino-Jam"[5] and "Yes We Can"[6] on which she appears as a guest vocalist.

2008–10: Career beginnings, Technology Is a Dead Bird[]

In mid-2008, Argo and Sinclair began working together on their independent debut concept album titled Technology Is a Dead Bird.

Following this, on February 16th, 2009, the two created their own YouTube channel Grocerybagdottv. They originally used Radiohead music for their videos, but switched to making their own music as the duo Mars Argo once YouTube instated their rules against copyright infringement.[7]

While the album was worked on, their social commentary videos were renamed Computer Shows, and various songs were released onto the duo's Muxtape page.[8] An early version of "Tired Today" was released alongside a music video on March 18th, 2009, which was followed by the release of "The Singularity Is Near", both serving as promotional videos for the album. The album was released on November 6th, 2009.

2010–12: Linden Place, canceled self-titled second studio album[]

Following the relatively successful release of Technology Is a Dead Bird, Argo and Sinclair started working on a follow-up extended play, which would be titled Linden Place. The single "Spider in My Bathtub" was released to the duo's YouTube channel on September 23rd, 2010,[9] and an alternate, 10-second longer version was uploaded exclusively to their Myspace account sometime after its YouTube release.[10] This track was initially meant for inclusion on the aforementioned EP, but failed to make the final cut for unknown reasons.

Linden Place was initially scheduled and announced for a December 2010 release date.[11] However, this deadline was not met, as the release received an unexpected delay. After being promoted through the Computer Show episodes "Art Is Easy" and "Do You Ever Feel Empty?" in January and February of 2011 respectively,[12][13] and a half-hour long interview with Tucker Woodley in March,[14] the extended play was finally released on March 20th, 2011.[15]

With the release of the single "Love in Black and White", Mars Argo turned from a duo into a proper band, with new members joining to play bass, drums and guitar. This included Sinclair's own brother, Alex Mixter, as well as his close friend Nick Bujouves.

Throughout the next year, Argo and Sinclair would continue to work on their self-titled second studio album, while also working with Chicago-based producer Johnny K on "remixing" tracks from their previous releases. However, they decided to move from Chicago to Los Angeles, in order to achieve more success in a more enjoyable environment.[7] The band's second studio album was announced to be released on November 22nd, 2012,[16] but the release date got scrapped for unknown reasons and instead the same month, the single "Runaway Runaway" and its B-side "Stuck on You", which were both confirmed tracks set to appear on the album, got released instead.

2013–14: Canceled second studio album, band breakup[]

In early 2013, after Argo and Sinclair had moved to Los Angeles, new band members Julian Mirijanian, Jake DeSouza and Nigel Silverthorn replaced the previous ones. The band began their Los Angeles debut with a series of live performances, most notably at Silverlake Lounge, Bardot and Pehrspace after partnering with the live performance management company LA-Underground. Argo and Sinclair were working on a new version of their second studio album, which had no set release date.

The two continued making Computer Show episodes until May 2014. However, their relationship became more unstable, with Argo even refusing to perform the first song live at Stephen F's Bar, which in turn caused the band to change their performance setlist. The Computer Show series ended with "Delete Your Facebook", due to a rough breakup between the couple involving cheating and physical abuse. This caused their second studio album to be canceled again.

A revamped version of the song "Using You" was released as the band's final single together on December 21st, 2014. Upon this, Argo and Sinclair briefly resumed their work together professionally and began interacting again on social media.[17][18][19] This had led the two to start recording music at the beginning of 2015, working on "Save Me"[20][21] in February and "Living It"[22] sometime after that, amongst possible other songs. The band revival ultimately ended around March of 2015, following the permanent break-up between the two.

2015–17: Little Sunny Bite, Guppy, acting career[]

After splitting up with Sinclair, Argo began part-time modeling in 2015 and 2016 for the Japanese fashion brand Little Sunny Bite, owned by her then-friend Yoppy. She began working on a solo album, later revealed to have been titled Guppy in 2015, which had been scheduled for a January 2016 release.

Argo was cast as a role as Caitlyn Weaver for the final three episodes of the web show Caged in 2016, which was canceled before it could air due to unknown reasons. She appeared in a short film by friend Max Landis, Wrestling Isn't Wrestling, a commercial for the Google Pixel and another for EarSkinz.[23] She also appeared in the short film Ordinary Lovers in 2017, as a cafe patron extra.[24]

2017–2019: Acting career development, lawsuit, upcoming solo album[]

Argo filed for a lawsuit against Sinclair and Poppy on April 17th, 2018, claiming and providing collected evidence that the two stalked and harassed her.[25] Documents written by Argo's lawyer were publicly released through TMZ on the same day.[26] Argo released a statement to Instagram after not posting on the platform for three years, thanking her fans and addressing the lawsuit, confirming new music to come.[27] The following month, she gave an interview with Daily Mail about the lawsuit where a new picture of her, photographed by Stewart Cook, was released.[28]

The lawsuit was terminated on September 14th, 2018, due to the reaching of an agreement between both parties involved. Argo's lawyer confirmed that Argo finally felt content to move on personally and professionally. Since then, she has confirmed to have started work again on her upcoming solo album. With currently no concrete deadline for release, she has been posting lyrics to her social media, confirming that she is still in the process of writing songs.

It was confirmed on IMDb that Argo will have a role as Sissy in the film Dinner in America, which debuted at Sundance in 2020. Argo's acting coach, Aimee DeShayes, confirmed to Instagram on November 13th, 2018, that she booked a role in an upcoming secretive untitled feature film.

2022-present: Angry and upcoming solo album[]

Following the teasing of "Angry" on Vine in 2015, an extended hiatus, and a leaked demo of the song surfacing in 2021, Argo officially released "Angry" on April 25th, 2022 without prior notice.[29][30] This resulted in Argo's long-awaited return to social media, as well as a change in the Grocerybag YouTube channel name and brand to that of Should I Clean My Room. She revealed via Instagram stories to be still recording music with "Angry" producer CJ Baran,[31] releasing second single "I Can Only Be Me" on March 15th, 2023.[32]

"I Can Only Be Me" notably received more promotion than "Angry", with Argo releasing an official lyric video,[1] music video and Japanese translation of its lyrics.[33] The single was also accompanied by a portrait of the singer photographed by Nick Rasmussen and Kazutoshi Shimizu.[1][2] Following the release of the song, Argo confirmed more singles, as well as an album and official merch, are still on the way.[34][35][36]

In January 2024, the singer revealed she would explain whether she prefers to be called her birth or stage name "hopefully closer to the earlier end" of the year.[37]
