Connie is a fictional character and narrator featured on Mars Argo's debut album Technology Is a Dead Bird. She appears in the tracks "The Singularity Is Near", "Monsters Under My Bed", "Technology Is a Dead Bird" and "Tired Today". Her voice is portrayed by an altered text-to-speech voice in Mac OS X.[1]
Background[]
During development of Technology Is a Dead Bird, Titanic Sinclair took a train from San Francisco to Los Angeles, in which he secretly recorded a conversation between a presumed schizophrenic person and a text-to-speech software. This would later influence Connie's character and her appearance in the album.[1]
Appearances[]
Connie makes her debut appearance in the music video for "The Singularity Is Near", where she is depicted as a vintage radio which Mars Argo carries out of the woods. This same radio makes a cameo appearance in the background of Computer Show episode "What Inspires You?".
In "Our Songs in Your Videos", she is depicted as a Magnavox computer monitor with knobs for contrast, color, sharpness and volume. A photo of it is used for the Technology Is a Dead Bird instrumental album cover.
Trivia[]
- Connie fittingly has a monologue in the song "Machine", which was only present in the early Bandcamp and iTunes versions of Technology Is a Dead Bird.
